FOOD

Roast Dinner

Roast Dinner

A British roast dinner is a hot, sit-down meal typically served on Sundays – hence the term 'A Sunday Roast'; at its heart, it features roasted meat – beef, chicken, lamb or pork, accompanied by roast potatoes, a variety of vegetables, gravy, and Yorkshire puddings; what makes a roast dinner special is its sense of occasion.

Shepherd's or Cottage Pie

Shepherd's or Cottage Pie

A savoury dish of cooked minced meat topped with mashed potato and baked; the meat used may be either previously cooked or freshly minced; the terms 'shepherd's pie' and 'cottage pie' have been used interchangeably since they came into use in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

Toad in the Hole

Toad in the Hole

A traditional British dish consisting of sausages in Yorkshire pudding batter, usually served with onion gravy, mashed potatoes and vegetables; historically, the dish has also been prepared using other meats, such as rump steak and lamb's kidney.
